In mid-December, the American Studies Association voted to boycott Israel’s higher-education institutions to protest the country’s treatment of Palestinians. I have subsequently been asked by some members of the Ithaca College community to articulate my position on the boycott.

An article by Steve Seidman, professor emeritus and lecturer in the Department of Strategic Communication, was published in Music in American Life: An Encyclopedia of the Songs, Styles, Stars, and Stories That Shaped Our Culture, edited by Jacqueline Edmondson.

His article titled, “Rock Concert Posters” chronicles the history of poster styles and the evolution of one-time event notices into collectable artwork and souvenirs.

As part of a larger effort to improve the security of our digital information, ITS has developed a Quick Guide to using AES Crypt.  AES Crypt is a free program that allows you to encrypt and password protect files (e.g., Word documents, Excel Spreadsheet, etc.) to prevent unauthorized access and to maintain the integrity of the data.

Patricia Zimmermann, professor of screen studies and codirector of the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival, published an essay, “Frances Flaherty and Non Preconception" for the 2013 Robert Flaherty Film Seminar 2013 Catalog, History is What’s Happening.

Through archival diaries, letters, speeches, and publications, this catalog essay probes how Frances Flaherty developed theories of documentary based on Zen principles of non preconception and the participation mystique, ideas often falsely attributed to her husband, explorer and filmmaker Robert Flaherty.

Johanna Goehner is back at the Wellness Clinic this semester teaching Pilates. The class will meet on Tuesdays at 1:30 (starting January 21st) and will run for 14 weeks (through April 29th). In response to requests by faculty for a statement regarding services for students with disabilities, here is a concise insert for inclusion in course syllabi.  

Please encourage students registered with Student Disability Services to meet with you during office hours to discuss their accommodation plan.

 "In compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act, reasonable accommodation will be provided to students with documented disabilities on a case-by-case basis. Students must register with Student Disability Services and provide appropriate documentation to Ithaca College before any academic adjustment will be provided."

One-on-One with Aetna

The Office of Human Resources recognizes the importance of accessibility to your benefit vendors. To accomplish this, our Aetna Representative, Denise Dolinsky is available on campus each month to answer any questions you may have on how to use the Aetna Medical plans, or specific questions related to Aetna coverage, claims, providers, etc.  

Meetings with Denise are held in Human Resources between 11:00am-1pm the following Tuesday’s in the first quarter of 2014.

Ithaca College was awarded a leadership workshop for young women providing knowledge and skills from an elected official, communication expert, and campus leaders involved in Student Government. This workshop will be hosted by a visiting representative from the American Association of University Women from Washington, D.C. It is a great opportunity for any student looking to develop their skills and prepare for leadership positions on campus.
