Although extenuating circumstances precluded her being able to attend the annual conference in Saratoga Springs, the award included free registration and hotel accommodations. Direct Course Enhancement is the traditional IDF grant. Diversity/International Projects is a new category for IDF. Proposals are due in the Center for Faculty Excellence, 316 Gannett Center, by November 15, February 15, and April 15. If the 15th falls on a weekend, proposals will be due the next week day. Course fulfills General Education requirements 1: Self & Society and GE h: Historical Perspective, Humanities, Liberal Arts, and Diversity Designation. COURSE DESCRIPTION: Explores how representations of racial and ethnic identities in U.S. film, television, and music influence the construction of political, racial, and gender identities nationally. Investigates how cultural representations of race, ethnicity, and gender are central to the development of U.S. mass culture and consumerism, nationalism, citizenship, and social movements. Particular attention is given to the role of black and Latino/a culture and music in developing strategies of resistance to oppression. Prerequisites: Sophomore standing. 3 credits. Two members of the Aging Studies department presented at this year's annual State Society on Aging NY conference in Saratoga Springs in October 2013. Associate professor and chair Mary Ann Erickson moderated a panel and also presented in the Walter Beattie Symposium on "The Role of Gerontology Education Centers in Capacity Building." Assistant professor and IC/Longview coordinator Christine Pogorzala presented a poster session, "What's That There? Experiential Learning Opportunities in an Undergraduate Memory Loss and Aging Course."
