(208 words) Hit Musical “Spring Awakening” Will Rock Ithaca CollegeContributed by Susan Monagan on 03/25/13 Next in the line-up of Ithaca College Theatre’s 2012–2013 season is “Spring Awakening”. With music by Duncan Sheik and book and lyrics by Steven Sater, the musical is based on the play by Frank Wedekind. Staged in the Clark Theatre, performances of “Spring Awakening” will be held at 8 p.m. on March 26, 28, 29, 30, and continue April 2-6. Matinee performances will be held at 2 p.m. on March 30 and 31 and April 6. A talkback with dramaturg will follow the 2 p.m. performance on April 6. Distinguished Visiting Writer Wayne Koestenbaum To Give a Public Reading on Thursday, March 28th at 7:30pm in Klingenstein Lounge, Campus Center.Contributed by Catherine Taylor on 03/25/13 WAYNE KOESTENBAUM has published fifteen books of poetry, criticism, and fiction, including Humiliation, The Anatomy of Harpo Marx, Best-Selling Jewish Porn Films, Andy Warhol, and The Queen's Throat: Opera, Homosexuality, and the Mystery of Desire, which was nominated for a National Book Critics Circle Award. He has also written an opera libretto (for Michael Daugherty's Jackie O). Educated at Harvard and Princeton, Koestenbaum is a Distinguished Professor of English at the CUNY Graduate Center. (23 words) The next No Pressure Blood Pressure will be held on Wednesday, March 27th. Important reasons not to miss the next screening: 1. 65 million Americans have hypertension (high blood pressure) 2. Many people don't even know their blood pressure is high because there are no symptoms in most cases 3. Hypertension can lead to heart disease, stroke, heart failure, and kidney disease 4. 66% of those IC employees measured at the last screening were pre-hypertensive (above ideal ) 5. A 20 point increase in systolic blood pressure (top number) or a 10 point increase in diastolic blood pressure (bottom number) doubles the risk of heart disease. 6. Poor diet, inactivity, and being overweight can lead to an increase in blood pressure 7. If one does not adopt a healthy lifestyle, the hypertensive individual will need to take costly medication with potential side effects 8. Wearing a button to show your support of stomping out the stigma about accessing mental health care might make it easier for one of your friends to reach out and get help if needed.
