The Ithaca Writers Institute, a new two-week summer writing conference for high school students, seeks three Ithaca College students to serve as Teaching Assistants/Resident Advisors from June 29 to July 12, 2013. TA/RAs will assist in writing workshops led by Department of Writing faculty (duties may include developing lectures, assignments, and exercises and critiquing student writing) and chaperone and mentor students in writing labs, dorms, and extracurricular activities. TA/RAs will participate in a paid training session in the spring semester. Room and Board are included. Please visit the student employment website for more details on this opportunity.

Peter Sykes, one of the most distinguished and versatile keyboard artists performing today, will give a solo clavichord recital this Friday Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. in Hockett Family Recital Hall.

He will be presenting the works of J. S. Bach, C. P. E. Bach, Haydn and Beethoven on the clavichord--a unique European stringed keyboard instrument hailing from the late Medieval era. His playing, not to be missed, has variously been called “compelling and moving,” “magnificent and revelatory,” and “bold, imaginative, and amazingly accurate.”

Hey IC employees: Is the specter of shelling out $4 a gallon (or more) at the gas pump making you think twice about alternative transportation options for your daily commute to campus? The American Automobile Association’s annual guide called “Your Driving Costs”  estimates that it costs most drivers at least $8,000 a year to own and operate a single occupant vehicle – and that was based on gas costing ~$2.60 a gallon! We are looking for infants between 6 and 9 months of age to help us in a research study which takes place in our Movement Lab on the Ithaca College campus. The study involves testing the sitting balance of infants. You will be asked to bring your infant to our lab for three visits; the first to assess your child development and the other two sessions to test your child’s sitting balance. Each session will require approximately 30 minutes. A $20 incentive will be offered for each session that you and your infant attend.
