Peer Career Advisors (PCAs) play an invaluable role as paraprofessionals in the Career Services office at Ithaca College. PCAs provide tailored career advice to students from all backgrounds interested in an array of professions. Drop-ins, presentations, and events across campus are just few of many opportunities PCAs have to showcase their knowledge on career related topics as well as facilitate professional development of their own.

We are looking for students who identify as having a physical or a psychosocial disability to participate in a focus group where we will discuss what activities you do as a college student at Ithaca College. We will also discuss the availability of accommodations on campus for both academic and non-academic activities.

The focus group runs for an hour and a half. Refreshments will be provided. You will be entered to win a $50 Amazon gift card for participating.

Jenna Heffron, PhD, OTR/L (HSHP; Occupational Therapy) recently published a book chapter on peer mentoring and support to facilitate home and community participation for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). The chapter provides an overview of the history and theory of peer mentoring and support, an overview of a wide range of peer mentoring programs for adults with I/DD, a case example based on an intervention research project completed by Heffron and her co-authors, and concludes with implications for the OT profession as well as a discussion about how peer mentoring and support can occur informally and outside of traditional rehabilitation/social service settings.

On Tuesday, 12:05-1:10 PM in Friends 208, there will be a training for volunteering with HEARD this semester. Please know all of your past home addresses, the birthdates of all of the people you live with at home, and your social security number. If you have class before or after that time frame, you can still come! HEARD works with incarcerated young men on the weekends. This training will allow you to come on outreaches with HEARD. The NYU Journal of Intellectual Property & Entertainment Law has published an article written by Anthony Adornato, associate professor of journalism. Last summer, Adornato presented the article, “Failed Strategy: Using Trade Secret Laws to Assert Ownership of Employees’ Social Media Accounts in the Journalism Industry,” at the World Journalism Education Congress in Paris.
