The holiday season is a wonderful time to give thanks for all we enjoy together at Ithaca College as a faculty and staff community. We will celebrate again this year at a holiday luncheon on campus and at two holiday parties at Fountain Place.

The Sustainability Café on Monday, November 28th will feature Dr. Sandra Steingraber speaking on “The Personal and Public Experience with Environmental Contaminants.” The Café will be held in Center for Natural Sciences Room 112 at 4:00PM. The Fall 2011 Sustainability Café series is held in conjunction with the Environmental Seminar.

The Phillips Hall Post Office currently has the $8.80 (Forever) Holiday Baubles, Madonna of the Candleabra and Holiday Evergreens books of 20.  We have a limited supply of (Forever) Hanakkuh and Eide Greetings stamps that can purchased individually.  These will remain valid as the current First Class postage no matter what the rate.

There are only 18 sheets left of the Ithaca College custom postage.  The choices are a view of the Towers in a winter landscape and a fall view looking toward Cayuga Lake.  These can be purchased as a quantity of 10 or 20.

The School of Business will hold an information session on the opportunities and advantages of pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) or MBA in Professional Accountancy (MBA-PA) degree at Ithaca College.

I want to remind all faculty that if you are planning to conduct research or classroom activity involving recombinant DNA or any potentially bio-hazardous material, including pathogens, biological toxins, or human cells, tissues, organs, or fluids you must obtain prior approval from the Institutional Biosafety Committee before undertaking that activity. This committee provides federally-mandated oversight of activities that present risk of infection or illness in humans.

As you know, members of the Committee for College-Wide Requirements (CCR) and many other groups and individuals on campus are working hard on the continued development of a new Integrative Core Curriculum. It is important that an administrator of the program – the Director of the Core Curriculum – be identified in order to help foster the development of the plan and to coordinate the program once it is in place. In addition, the new director, who will report directly to me, will oversee the First Year Reading Initiative and work with Student Affairs on important orientation and related first year programming.  The appointed individual will have four course releases, teach two courses in the Integrative Core Curriculum, and receive a summer stipend. The structure of the appointment and the associated responsibilities will be evolving as the program develops, with a full reevaluation of the position structure in 2013.
