Documentary by Eric Keto ’11 and Corinne Colgan ‘11 Chosen for Film FestsContributed by Melissa Gattine on 05/18/11 Seniors Eric Keto and Corinne Colgan co-directed “Carried Away” a 13-minute documentary profiling backyard inventor, artist and world-record holding hot-air-balloon pilot Brian Boland. The film won the Audience Choice Award at the Visions Film Festival held at UNC-Wilmington in April. It also screened at the Reality Bytes Independent Student Film Festival at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois and received the festival’s top documentary award. Read more . . . (235 words) SENIOR WEEK Event Update Wednesday's Senior Splash event will be moved indoors to the Emerson Suites from 11:00am-3:00pm due to inclement weather. All activities remain as scheduled -- including food, drinks, inflatables, and the band Barefoot Truth starting at 1:00pm. This event is free for Senior Week pass-holders, and $20 for those without passes. The main ITS public computer labs will be closed during the summer with the exception of Friends 110. This lab will not be open 24 hours during the summer. A consultant and printing are available limited hours. Please see the Friends 110 summer schedule for details. The Student Computer Repair Center will be open limited hours during the summer beginning June 6. Please see the SCRC summer schedule for details. (27 words) 2011 Sustainability Curriculum Development Mini-grant Awards AnnouncedContributed by Marian Brown on 05/16/11 The Partnership for Sustainability Education (PSE) coordinating team announces three awardees of $1,000 mini-grants for sustainability curriculum development and one Phase II Case Study grant of $400 for 2011. PSE mini-grants are intended to support curriculum development work to infuse sustainability-related content into Ithaca College courses or other educational experiences. Such curricular development may include new courses, development of new components for existing courses, or revision of existing courses to deal with issues relating to sustainability. Online course proposals are encouraged, as are proposals that involve community partners in developing projects that will benefit their organization and meaningfully engage students. Read more . . . Flowers, in coordination with graduate student Nate Ren, publish in PRism, a scholarly journal on public relations. The article, “Technology and crisis communication: Emerging themes from a pilot study of U.S. public relations practitioners,” focuses on the use of technology by individuals in crisis situations. Due to faster information flow between individuals today, the public relations field is experiencing an impact on the preparation process. Students create film to raise awareness about suicide and suicide preventionContributed by LeBron Rankins on 05/15/11 Ithaca College was one of the tour stops for Send Silence Packing, an exhibit sponsored by the national chapter of Active Minds. Thanks to the work of students from the College's chapter of Active Minds, the exhibit helped raise awareness about the importance of suicide prevention for our campus community. Thanks to several students, Liz VanDurme '12, Producer; Alyssa Traitz '12, Cinematographer; Chloe Wilson '14, Production Assistant; and Cory Dahn '14, Editor, the event has been captured and posted for all the world to see.
