Taylor Horton's electroacoustic music composition, The Empyrean for computer playback, was one of only six undergraduate works performed at the Society for Electroacoustic Music in the United States (SEAMUS) National Conference in Miami this past semester. The conference is the premier event for the introduction of new electroacoustic works in the United States. Her work was actually a homework assignment from Peter Rothbart's Digital Recording and Editing class.

In this online class, we learn via internet readings, videos, podcasts, guest lecturers and discussions that link students and experts. The course will make you deeply aware of water as an essential element for all life as it explores questions such as: Why is water an important part of many religious rituals?  Why is water considered 'Blue Gold'? What is your water footprint? Does water have memory? We will use perspectives from the arts, humanities and sciences, and also focus on the global politics of water and sustainability. In a United States court of law, how does the race of the defendant affect the verdict?
RACE TO EXECUTION, a film by Rachel Lyon, follows the story of two death row inmates, exploring the link between race and the death penalty in America.  

Join IC Human Rights in exploring the death penalty in American.  Race to Execution will be screened in Textor 101, Thursday April 21st at 8pm.

West recently presented a paper at AERA in New Orleans titled, "Inciting the Social Imagination: A Mixed Methods Design in Music Education." The paper presented a mixing of qualitative case study data with quantitative survey data to examine middle school jazz education.

Professor Elisabeth Nonas will be teaching a new course during Summer Session I, CNPH 10500 Screenwriting for Non-majors (CRN 10218)

Students need not have any prior filmmaking or screenwriting experience.

CNPH 10500 SCREENWRITING FOR NON-MAJORS (CRN 10218)Writers of non-script genres will learn how screenwriters write so that their written documents enable their readers to become viewers, visualizing the movie that will be made from the script. Study of screenplays, their corresponding films, in-class writing exercises, and completion of a short script (proper screenplay format will be taught) will illustrate the particular challenges facing the screenwriter. Learning to write visually and economically, also to create visual equivalents for moods or the relationships between characters, are useful tools in any writer’s toolkit.
