A pilot program in a series staring next season, members of the School of Music faculty will team up for a free concert on Sunday, March 28 at 4pm in the Hockett Family Recital Hall.  Performing on this concert will be the Sheherazade Trio, violinist Nicholas DiEugenio, and jazz pianist John Stetch. The trio will present a Brahms piano trio, DiEugenio will play Steve Reich's "Violin Phase" for solo violin and sound engineer, and Stetch will offer some of his own music along with that of Thelonius Monk.

John Fracchia was recently elected as President-Elect for the Eastern Association of Colleges and Employers. The Eastern Association of Colleges and Employers better known as EACE is the largest regional college / employer network with approximately 1200 members representing 817 colleges, 258 employers, and 27 associates from Maine to Virginia.

Matthew Fee, director of the Park Scholar Program and a lecturer in the Department of Cinema, Photography, and Media Arts, recently presented a paper at the annual conference for the Society for Cinema and Media Studies in Los Angeles.

Fee's presentation, “Rural Horror and Contemporary Irish Cinema,” examined how contemporary Irish horror films transform bucolic Ireland—historically visualized by tourism, Irish nationalism and cinema as a space of lush green fields and languid farms—into shadowy spaces of dread and decay, of the uncanny and the irrational. Fee argued that these films not only engage with longstanding representational traditions, but also articulate contemporary anxieties surrounding the place—or lack thereof—of the rural in a post-industrial and globalized Ireland.

Award–winning filmmaker Ric Burns and three of his longtime colleagues will provide an inside look at the documentary process in a seminar at Ithaca College. “Documentary Filmmaking: A Seminar in Collaboration” will be held on Wednesday, March 31, at 4 p.m. in Park Hall Auditorium. It is free and open to the public.

Joining Burns on the panel will be composer and 1974 Ithaca College alumnus Brian Keane, film editor Lishin Yu and sound editor Ira Spiegel. The seminar will focus on the interconnectedness of image, music and sound in the filmmaking process. Observe how a picture editor cuts for the sound editor, how the sound editor designs with the composer in mind and how ultimately they are all working to bring the director’s vision to the screen.
