Phillips Stevens, Jr. from the Department of Anthropology at the University at Buffalo, will deliver a lecture on poorly recognized aspects of the colonial legacy in Africa. The talk is titled, "Magical Literacy, the Easy Life, and Expedient Christianity: Some Poorly Recognized Aspects of the Colonial Legacy in Africa."

Pulitzer Prize–winning columnist Nicholas Kristof will be among the speakers at a local symposium on the connections between the Beijing Olympics and the ongoing genocide in the Darfur region of Sudan. Sponsored by student organizations at Ithaca College and Cornell University, “Dream for Darfur: A Two-Day Academic Symposium on the World’s Darkest Olympics” will take place on Saturday, April 5, and Monday, April 7.
