On August 8, 2007, the names of a number of presidents of U.S. colleges and universities appeared in an advertisement that was placed in the New York Times by the American Jewish Congress (AJC). The text of the ad was a statement by Lee Bollinger, president of Columbia University, stating, in part, that he was " ... profoundly disturbed by the recent vote by Britain's new University and College Union (UCU) to advance a boycott against Israeli academic institutions." The Robert G. Boehmler Community Foundation series will bring François Rabbath -- the "Paganini of the String Bass" -- to Ithaca College for a free performance on Wednesday, September 19. The concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Hockett Family Recital Hall in the James J. Whalen Center for Music. The program will include compositions by Rabbath himself as well as the music of Frank Proto.

CSCRE's fall 2007 discussion series, The Prison Machine: Race, Torture, & the State, explores the incarceration of people of color with a focus on intersections of race, torture, and the state. The series starts off with Joy A. James, a professor of Africana studies at Williams College who holds a Ph.D. in political philosophy from Fordham University and a post doctorate degree in religious ethics from the Union Theological Seminary at Columbia University.
