Mac’s General Store will close early at 7:00 pm on Friday, April 27th, 2007. The early closing is due to the Ithaca College Campus wide Power shutdown that will last until 7:00 am, Saturday morning. Mac’s General store is scheduled to reopen at 10:00 am, Saturday, April 28th, 2007.

On Thursday, April 26, the Yaardvarks will perform at the Handwerker Gallery. The Yaardvarks, a quirky folky semi-acoustic trio featuring Tom Farrell, John Simon and Ken Zeserson, specialize in heartfelt rock and roll with three-part vocal arrangements of tunes by the likes of Elvis Costello, Talking Heads, Joni Mitchell and their predecessors such as the Beatles, Bob Dylan and Neil Young.

Jackie Scahill '07, supervised by Susan Allen-Gil, presented "The Effects of Atrazine on the Development of Fathead Minnows (Pimephales promelas) and Xenopus Frogs" at a conference hosted by Tri Beta, the national biology honors society, at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, New York, in April.

Band Season Wraps Up Monday

The Symphonic Band led by Elizabeth Peterson takes the Ford Hall stage on Monday, April 30 at 8:15 p.m.in the James J. Whalen Center for Music. Their program features “Magnetic Fireflies” by Augusta Read Thomas, “Old Wine in New Bottles” by Gordon Jacob, Vaughan Williams’s “English Folk Song Suite,” and music of Ito.

A team of IC student programmers placed third overall in the programming contest held during the 2007 Consortium for Computing Sciences in Colleges — Northeastern Region conference (CCSCNE 2007). The programming team members were Sigurd Teigen '08, computer science; Ross Skaliotis '08, computer science; and Max Sipos '08, physics/mathematics. The team was advised by computer sciences assistant professor Ali Erkan.

Two outstanding students, Lia Stelljes '08 and Rhea Hanrahan '09, presented at the Society of Physics Students Zone 2 meeting held in conjunction with the Rochester Symposium for Physics Students at the University of Rochester.

Angus Godwin will retire at the end of the spring 2007 semester after an Ithaca College teaching career which began in 1969. All faculty and staff are cordially invited to attend a reception at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 10th in the McHenry Lobby of the Whalen Center for Music to honor his distinguished career. On Saturday April 21, 2007, 10 students participated in the 14th annual Hudson River Undergraduate Mathematics Conference (HRUMC), hosted by Siena College in Loudonville, New York. The HRUMC is among the longest-running conferences dedicated solely to student-faculty research in mathematics, drawing schools from all over the Northeast for this one-day event.
