Last week, a team of nearly two dozen Ithaca College students took home first place in the American Advertising Federation's National Student Advertising Competition in Hollywood, Florida, thanks to a last-minute change in their strategy.

Professor Paul R. Geisler, EdD, ATC presented "Diagnostic Accuracy of Common Special Tests for the Knee: Bringing Evidence to Your Assessment" at the 2019 Annual Meeting of the New York State Athletic Trainers' Association in Schenectady, NY last weekend.

The bachelor of science degree program in athletic training in the (newly renamed) Department of Exercise Science & Athletic Training has received a 10 year re-accreditation award from the national accrediting body, the Commission on Accreditation for Athletic Training Education, or the CAATE. This recognition secures the program's status until 2028-29, and allows them to now complete their transition to the Master's degree in order to be in compliance with new professional education requirements of the CAATE (entry-level degree will be at the master's level, effective by 2023). Thanks to all administrators, studenets, preceptors and students for helping with the 1.5 year self-study process and sustained excellence.

After 30 plus years of service to Ithaca College, Lorie Holmes-VanDusen will be retiring on June 14, 2019. During her tenure, Lorie became an Ithaca College alumnus as a graduate from the School of Business.

Lorie played a pivotal role in supporting APC and maintaining the Ithaca College course catalogs, working with faculty and staff across campus. Lorie has assisted countless students and alumni reach their academic and career goals.

This course examines the mechanisms that have resulted in the rich diversity of life on our planet. Emphasis on how evolutionary biology helps us to understand current issues in ecology, conservation biology, global climate change, agriculture, human health, medicine, and human behavior.

Topics include: the fossil record, biodiversity, mass extinctions, human evolution, infectious diseases and antibiotic resistance. (IRR)

A group of students from Ithaca College won the prestigious American Advertising Federation's National Student Advertising Competition on Friday, June 7, in Hollywood, Florida. The team competed against seven other schools, with Liberty University coming in second and Syracuse University finishing third.

Arzu Karaduman, assistant professor in the Department of Media Arts, Sciences, and Studies, presented her paper titled "Narcissism Adrift in Sound in Cinema: Cryptic Voices in Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s Three Monkeys and Once Upon a Time in Anatolia" at the annual conference of the Film Studies Association of Canada as part of the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences 2019 at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada.

Robert "Bob" Earle, 93, passed on Wednesday June 5, following a
short illness.  He was the first chair of the department of Television and Radio, beginning in 1953.
