The Ithaca College tap dance club, in collaboration with the Tap Legacy Foundation (TLF), has organized the first Finger Lakes Tap Dance Festival. Taking place Friday through Sunday, March 31 to April 2, the activities will include workshops, an informal student showcase and jam session, a panel discussion, and the screening of rare tap dance footage from the TLF archives. In addition, "Walking in Time," a public performance at the State Theatre in downtown Ithaca, will take place on Saturday, April 1, at 8:00 p.m. Five renowned guest artists will be featured, along with student dancers from Ithaca College and Cornell University.

The Ithaca College Concerts recital by violinist Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg and collaborative pianist Anne-Marie McDermott that was postponed due to weather earlier in March has been rescheduled for Wednesday, March 29. Featuring a program of Brahms sonatas, the performance will begin at 8:15 p.m. in Ford Hall in the James J. Whalen Center for Music.

The Empire 8 Presidents Council has announced that Stevens Institute of
Technology (Hoboken, N.J.) will join the Empire 8 as full member for the
2007-08 academic year. The Ducks will join the conference as an
affiliate member for field hockey beginning in the 2006 season.

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program offers grants for U.S. citizen undergraduate students of limited financial means to pursue academic studies abroad. Awards of up to $5,000 are made, but award amounts will vary depending on the length of study and student need with the average award being $4,000. Students who are receiving federal Pell Grant funding at two- or four-year undergraduate colleges or universities are eligible to apply. The application deadline for Fall 2006 or Academic Year 2006-07 is April 4.

Lisa Maurer, Office of Multicultural Affairs LGBT coordinator, published an article in the SIECUS Report themed issue on "Hard to Teach Topics."

The article, "Your Gender - Beyond Black and White" explores gender and gender role expectations.

The last class for the spring 2006 semester will be held this Sunday, March 26, in Textor 103 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

If students need to drive College-owned or leased/rented vehicles for your department, including the summertime, and have not yet taken the mandatory driver safety class, please have them attend. Students should register by visiting the Office of Risk Management in Job Hall, 3rd floor.

The Ithacan and ICTV were awarded Apple Awards for Best of Show in their respective categories at the Spring National College Media Convention in New York last weekend. Each newspaper or station enters a single issue or tape in the competition.

This is the fifth year the Apple Award has been presented at the spring conference. The Ithacan has won it three of those five years (2002, 2004, 2006), as has ICTV (2003, 2005, 2006).
