(19 words) Exploring Musical NY - Interested in learning about the classical performing arts but don’t know where to begin?Contributed by Peter Rothbart on 04/14/19 Exploring Musical New York (MUNM 25400) is a Block 1 course designed to introduce the curious student to Broadway, opera, jazz, orchestral music and ballet by learning about specific pieces and then experiencing them live in New York over Fall Break. This year we expect to study and attend live performances of a Broadway show, the Metropolitan Opera, the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, the American Ballet Theater and jazz’s famed Birdland. No musical knowledge is expected, but excitement, enthusiasm and a desire to experience and appreciate great performances by the world’s best artists is the only prerequisite. Students must be available to travel to NY over fall break. The lab fee of $650 covers all transportation to and from NY, hotel accommodations and all tickets. The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for Ithaca and surrounding areas in effect until 5:00 a.m. on Monday, April 15. A Tornado Watch means that conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms producing tornadoes in and close to the watch area. Those living in watch areas are advised to monitor weather reports for a possible upgrade to a Tornado Warning, which means that a tornado is indicated by radar or sighted by trained storm spotters. (195 words) Opioid Overdose Prevention Workshop - Learn how to use naloxone to save a life: Wednesday, May 1st, 4-5pm.Contributed by Nancy Reynolds on 04/14/19 Would you like to be able to save the life of someone who is overdosing on an opioid such as Oxycontin, Vicodin or heroin? The Opioid Overdose Prevention Training Workshop is a skill-building program presented by staff from Southern Tier AIDS Program (STAP). The workshop is designed to help you in recognizing and preventing fatal opioid overdoses. Participants will learn basic information about harm reduction, signs of overdose, and how to administer naloxone in the case of an opioid overdose emergency. Participants who complete the training will receive an identification card that they can use to obtain a free naloxone kit at the STAP location in downtown Ithaca.
