In coordination with the World Cup, 2018, Professor and Director of Athletic Training Education in the Department of Exercise & Sport Sciences, Paul R. Geisler, EdD, ATC was recently interviewed by Scientific American on the role of strength training in soccer. The article can be seen here

The Bomber Athletic Training education program in the Department of Exercise & Sport Sciences made a major impact on the 2018 National Athletic Trainers' Association Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposia, held in the last week of June in steamy and exciting New Orleans, LA.

Highlighted by 5 peer reviewed research presentations from newly certified and graduated members of the recent Class of 2018 and mentored by Assistant Professor Jennifer M. McKeon, PhD, ATC, CSCS, and a standing room only Evidence-Based Practice plenary session given by Clinical Associate Professor, Todd Lazenby, MA, ATC, a total of 18 Bomber AT faculty and alumni presented research in oral or poster format at the 4 day annual conference.

Ithaca College Athletics Hall of Fame Committee selected the 49th Hall of Fame class. Eight magnificent individuals and one team will be formally inducted into Ithaca's illustrious Hall of Fame on Friday, October 5, 2018 in Emerson Suites. IC alumnus and ESPN SportsCenter anchor Kevin Connors '97 will return as the Master of Ceremonies for the fourth straight year.

Take Watching Race in US Media as a Summer Session II online course (July 2-Aug 3) and fulfill diversity and/or themes & perspectives requirements. Watch films, blog about it, and learn to analyze media critically!

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Explores how representations of racial and ethnic identities in U.S. film, television, and music influence the construction of political, racial, and gender identities nationally. Investigates how cultural representations of race, ethnicity, and gender are central to the development of U.S. mass culture, nationalism, citizenship, and social movements. Particular attention is given to the role of black, Latino/a, Native and Asian culture and music in developing strategies of resistance to oppression. Prerequisites: Sophomore standing. 3 credits.

Chrissy Guest, Assistant Professor, Media Arts, Sciences, and Studies, presented her paper, Documenting Women in Animation from 1980-2018, at the 30th Annual Society for Animation Studies Conference which was held at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. Her paper examines the research process in documenting under-representation of women working behind the scenes in the field of animation and the pedagogy used to educate animators over five decades. This year’s conference titled, Then, Now and Next, drew well over 200 proposals that were scored multiple times in a double-blind selection process by an international committee of animation scholars. The submissions invited to present received high marks as more than half of the proposals were rejected to maintain a manageable number of presentations at the conference.
