Nick Kowalczyk, associate professor of writing, recently published a personal essay, "To Finally Embrace Living," in George Mason University's literary magazine Phoebe. The essay is about the immediate fallout of Professor Kowalczyk's taking of a DNA test this past summer to settle the longstanding question of what "race" he is.

Dear Campus Community: 

As the spring semester comes to a close and we start looking forward to the summer months, it’s important that we take a moment to reflect on our journey toward becoming a more diverse and inclusive campus community.  The recently released Faculty, Staff, and Student Councils’ Value Statement  provides an example of the importance of following our guiding values.  It takes work to become, and maintain, an inclusive campus, and this shared value statement can provide our campus some direction as we continue to build together.

 It is with mixed emotions that I share the news of the retirement of Holly R. Tavelli ’73, associate director of Admission. Holly has been an integral member of the Ithaca College community and has worked closely with thousands of prospective students and families and built ongoing relationships with hundreds of alumni. Holly has been a member of the Ithaca College community since arriving as a student in 1969.

In order to improve the user experience and add features to Sakai DIIS is planning an upgrade on August 14th, 2017. There will be two information sessions during finals week that will provide an overview of the new features, present a timeline, outline training opportunities, and answer questions.

• Monday, May 8th at 1:00 pm
• Tuesday May 9th at 10:00 am.

Both sessions are in Job 312.

Challenge your friends on an inflatable Tropical Obstacle Course, Hippo Chow Down and on the inflatable Toxic Drop. Be sure to capture the moment with the Photo booth or try out the new interactive photo booth Snap Shot all provided by NY Party Works. Student Activities Board sponsored the Toxic Drop and the Snap Shot photo booth.

Dr. Cristina Gomez, Dr. Vera Babenko, Dr. Megan Martinez, and Dr. Ted Galanthy, all from the Department of Mathematics, have been awarded a grant from the Mathematical Association of America’s (MAA) Tensor Program for Women and Mathematics.  In awarding the grant, the MAA stated, “Our reviewers thought your project showed great promise to encourage and engage female students to continue to study mathematics.”

 The club Ithaca College Unites For HER participates in fundraising efforts to provide a grant to any student, faculty, staff or immediate family member of theirs affected by breast cancer. This grant is to help pay for integrative, complementary therapies to help those who are going through or have gone through breast cancer treatment. These therapies include acupuncture, yoga classes, massage therapy, and nutrition counseling among others.  The Center for Faculty Excellence will be hosting a reception on Tuesday, May 9 from 4-5:30 to celebrate the good work Dr. Nancy Menning (Religion) during her 7 years teaching at Ithaca College.

DIIS wants everyone to be wary of responding to or clicking links in messages that seem vague and are unsolicited.

The recent Google Docs incident is a good example.
