IC Kicks Back is Friday

Come celebrate the end of the year at IC Kicks Back on Friday, May 5 from 2pm-6pm on the Campus Center Quad! Challenge your friends on an inflatable Tropical Obstacle Course, Hippo Chow Down and on the inflatable Toxic Drop. Be sure to capture the moment with the Photo booth or try out the new interactive photo booth Snap Shot all provided by NY Party Works. Student Activities Board sponsored the Toxic Drop and the Snap Shot photo booth.

IC Autism Speaks U is Ithaca College's chapter for the national non-profit organization, Autism Speaks. Autism Speaks U is a program that supports students, faculty and alumni in their awareness, advocacy and fundraising efforts for Autism Speaks. We are looking for a new academic advisor, as our previous advisor Skott Jones is going on sabbatical this upcoming fall. Roles of an advisor would include: approving the budget and any additional budget requests as well as serving as a consultant to the group (i.e. for possible topics and speakers, guest present at meetings, and attend campus events). A Book Talk with CSCRE's Dr. Phuong Nguyen

The Center for the Study of Culture, Race and Ethnicity invites you to a celebration of Dr. Phuong Nguyen’s forthcoming book, Becoming Refugee American: the Politics of Rescue in Little Saigon (University of Illinois Press, 2017). Dr. Nguyen will discuss the complex ways Vietnamese refugees who come to the United States after the Vietnam War negotiate anti-Asian sentiments, their identities and sense of belonging.

Dr. Orlando-Marquez C. Kittrell, founding director of the Office of State Grants (OSG), presented "STEM Student Editorial: Developing a Synergistic Pipeline for Historically Underrepresented STEM College Students" at the 14th Biennial Tri-State Conference.

The Tri-State Consortium includes educators, administrators, counselors, staff, pioneers and educational leaders mostly working in the state-supported educational opportunity programs in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York, and other programs which provide college access and opportunities for historically underrepresented, academically underprepared, disenfranchised or marginalized, and economically disadvantaged students to succeed in college. In New Jersey there is the Educational Opportunity Fund/EOF and in Pennsylvania there is the ACT 101 program.

Check out HLTH 22700 Stress: Its Nature and Management offered online in the 2-week May Session. This course discusses the impact of stress on your health and strategies to use stress to your advantage for optimal achievement.While we often tend to think of stress in negative terms, stress when managed can be a positive force in our lives. This course is offered from May 15th to May 26th. The course offers you maximum flexibility; it is asynchronous, meaning that you do not need to be online at any specific time.  This course is designated as ICC Mind, Body Spirit – Natural Science or Social Science Perspective, Liberal Arts.  For more information, contact the instructor at wuest@ithaca.edu

 

Two individuals with a lengthy track record of fostering dialogue and bridging difficult issues will be awarded honorary degrees by Ithaca College: Ann Thompson Cook, the co-founder and co-director of the organization Many Voices, and La June Montgomery Tabron, the president and CEO of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. They will be presented with honorary Doctor of Letters degrees at the college’s Commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 21.

The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for Ithaca and surrounding areas in effect until 10:00 p.m. on Monday, May 1. A Tornado Watch means that conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms producing tornadoes in and close to the watch area. Those living in watch areas are advised to monitor weather reports for a possible upgrade to a Tornado Warning, which means that a tornado is indicated by radar or sighted by trained storm spotters.
