Program Description: The Urban Mentorship Initiative (UMI) is a distance-mentoring program where students from Ithaca College are matched with seventh grade students from MS50 located in Brooklyn, NY. In this year-long program, mentors and mentees communicate through both structured and unstructured interactions via email and in-person meetings.  Mentors and mentees participate in three required in-person meetings. Ithaca College Enactus is a new organization coming to campus this semester that hopes to engage members in social entrepreneurship by starting projects and initiatives that promote real change in both the local Ithaca and global communities. These projects can include anything from developing websites and marketing plans for local businesses to coming up with and implementing solutions to help tackle major social issues such as homelessness, education reform, environmental sustainability and more. This is a perfect place for aspiring entrepreneurs or motivated individuals looking to make a difference while gaining real work experience to fill up your resume.

On Tuesday, August 16, the School of Humanities and Sciences held its annual Faculty Forum in the Emerson Suites of Campus Center. The event was attended by nearly 150 H&S faculty members, and included traditional introductions for new faculty, followed by a review of the school’s overriding priorities and goals, as well as small group discussions.

Nancy Rader, Psychology, presented a paper in July at the European Workshop on Ecological Psychology in Groningen, The Netherlands, that presented her body of infancy research in the context of a Gibsonian theory of perception and attention. In May, she presented a poster with Judith Pena-Shaff, co-authored with Carole Dennis, Sharon Stansfield, and Helene Larin entitled, “Robotic-Assisted Locomotion and Executive Control in Non-Crawling Infants”, at the International Conference on Infant Studies in New Orleans, LA.
