The planet Mercury will be passing between the Earth and Sun in the morning of Monday May 9. To view this event, the Department of Physics and Astronomy will have solar-safe telescopes set out on the East Plaza of the Center for Natural Sciences from 9am to 11am. (That’s the side of the building facing the Sun in the morning.) Breakfast snacks will be available.

Dear Campus Community:

Since I assumed the Interim Chief Diversity Officer position in November 2015, I have witnessed a changing of the seasons. Not only is our Ithaca winter finally becoming brighter, but I have also witnessed a significant shift in some of our campus community members’ attitudes and behaviors.

In the sixteen years that I have been employed at Ithaca College, I have never observed this degree of focus and level of intentionality on the part of the institution to engage in open discussions and implement policies and practices related to issues of diversity and inclusion.  I applaud the IC community for their engagement and willingness to contribute to IC’s efforts to help promote a more inclusive campus.

 HLTH 11000-01. War, Hunger, and Genocide: An International Health Perspective  Summer Session II

The primary course topics of war, hunger, and genocide are viewed as interconnected factors.  These are influenced by political, economic, and social conditions within countries as well as by foreign policies and national self-interests that exert power to marginalize groups, commit human rights violations, genocide, and produce poor health outcomes.

Recent and current conflicts placed within a historical context will be the focus of our analysis.

Particular emphasis will be placed on the plight of the poor and other marginalized groups in relation to health and disease. This includes addressing questions of power, morality, and international law such as those promulgated by the United Nations.
