(116 words) Last Thursday, the Caribbean Student Association (CSA) held an event titled “We Are Not Our Stereotypes” in Emerson Suites. This event featured a series of speeches and performances all with the purpose of dispelling stereotypes about individuals of Caribbean heritage. This event aligned perfectly with CSA’s mission, which is to “educate themselves and others within and out of the Ithaca College community about the social, political, and fiscal issues of the Caribbean.” Congratulations to CSA for hosting such an impactful event for both the amazing performers and all the excited attendees in the audience. Last Friday, the IC International Club hosted Interfashional Night, an annual fashion show showcasing clothing from all around the world. Both international and American students got the chance to walk the runway wearing traditional clothing from many different cultures. This year’s theme was “Now Boarding,” which served as a reference to boarding a plane to travel to a new destination and represented the truly cross-cultural nature of this event. Sister 2 Sister, an empowerment group for the women at IC and a network of support for social, emotional, psychological, academic, and political growth, held an event called “Re-Claiming Blackness” to conclude Black History Month, Sunday, February, 28 in Emerson Suites. (151 words) Bullying in the Workplace Training Workshop Presented by ENI: Space Still Available in Tomorrow's SessionContributed by Michelle Rios-Dominguez on 03/15/16 You may not hear a lot about adult bullying, but according to the Workplace Bullying Institute, up to a third of workers may be the victims of workplace bullying. About twenty percent of workplace bullying crosses the line into harassment. Workplace bullying refers to the repeated, health-impairing, mistreatment of a target, driven by the perpetrators need to control. Allowed to continue this behavior undermines legitimate business interests, lowers morale, and impacts the overall ability “to get work done.” Workplace bullying can make life quite miserable and difficult. Supervisors should especially be made aware of workplace bullies, since they can disrupt productivity and create a hostile work environment which can lead to legal ramifications. Read more . . .
