The start of each semester is a busy time for many departments and clubs that want to reserve classrooms or other academic spaces for various non-academic activities. There can be some confusion concerning the process for reserving classrooms for these activities leading up to and during the add/drop period each semester. In order to make the process smoother for this upcoming semester, as well as future semesters, here are guidelines for reserving classrooms during the add/drop period.

The Ithaca College Student Government Association will be hosting Elect Her – Campus Women Win on February 21, 2016. The American Association of University Women as well as an organization called Running Start sponsors this program to encourage young women to run for student government on their campuses.

YOU could participate in one of this year’s Alternative Spring Break (ASB) trips!  ASB is an application-based program sponsored by the Office of Student Engagement and Multicultural Affairs (OSEMA) that provides students with service opportunities at one of five sites across the eastern United States.  All students are eligible to apply.

There are still spaces available for these trips:

•      Park Preservation Experience (First Landing State Park, VA) (Seniors Needed!)

•      Park Preservation Experience II (Kiptopeke State Park, VA)

•      Coastal Conservation (Outer Banks, NC)

The staff confidence vote that was initiated on 12/17/15 was officially closed on 1/15/16.  A total of 705 staff members were invited to participate in the vote, 407 of whom  participated (58% response rate).  In response to the question “Do you have confidence in Tom Rochon as the President of Ithaca College” 33% of respondents selected “Yes”, 48% selected “No”, and 19% selected “Abstain.”

In light of President Rochon’s retirement announcement, we are committed to working with all constituencies to foster a more welcoming, respectful, and inclusive community at Ithaca College.  Beginning in February, Staff Council will be hosting a series of town hall meetings open to all staff members at Ithaca College.  A finalized meeting schedule and list of topics will be announced via intercom no later than 1/22/15.

As the 2016 spring semester begins and we celebrate the Martin Luther King holiday, it offers us a prime opportunity for reflection, renewal, and action. It enables us to think about the current social and racial issues we face and how we can come together to improve relationships.  It also provides a time to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King. His contributions continue to inspire our work and offer us the opportunity to build upon the civil and human rights work he dedicated his life to and gave his life for.

We are currently accepting proposals from faculty and staff across campus as well as from Student Organizations and Campus Offices that are offering educational programming in Block 3 or 4 of the Spring Semester and want to partner with the SLI program.
