Mark your calendar for this Friday as the Ithaca College Jazz Ensemble will be performing the winning pieces from the 2020-2021 David P. (’60) and Susan W. Wohlhueter Jazz Composition Contest. The concert will be on Friday, April 30th, 2021 at 8:15pm. Up to 70 students will be permitted to attend the concert live in Ford Hall; all others can view the web stream live at http://bit.ly/icjazzapril30.

The jazz ensemble members all participated in the judging of this year’s contest, which is done anonymously. All of the identifying information in the composer’s submissions is hidden until the winners are decided. This year, entries came from far and wide. 122 pieces were received from 22 countries outside the U.S. and from 28 U.S. states.

As we begin to wrap-up this spring semester, we are already looking forward to welcoming our new and returning students to South Hill in the fall. We are anticipating a move-in to the residence halls that looks and feels a little closer to what we have traditionally done in the past, which has always been an incredible way to welcome our students to campus. We need the support of all our community members to make this a successful move-in!

The President Shirley M. Collado Faculty Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Ithaca College Community is presented to an Ithaca College faculty member who exemplifies President Collado’s vision of excellence in education. Such excellence is demonstrated through an inclusive approach to educational practices of teaching, research, and/or leadership. Sites of practice include the classroom, the campus, and the community, whether local or global. The President Shirley M. Collado Faculty Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Ithaca College Community is intended to support the professional development of the chosen faculty member to further enhance their capacity for equitable and inclusive leadership in all relevant academic and community areas. The $5000 Award is made possible by the generous gift of Gloria Hobbs, Honorary Alumna & Trustee of Ithaca College.

Call For Volunteers

Ithaca College is looking for volunteers on May 8th to have a presence in the community and provide support to students on a day that in the past has typically involved mass gatherings, most commonly known as Kendall Day. Volunteer's will be stationed at different locations around Pennsylvania Ave and Kendall Street. The main goal of volunteers is to redirect people going to Kendall and Pennsylvania  offering alternative options and providing support. As a community we have worked very hard to keep COVID-19 cases low, those that volunteer will be helping to keep our community safe. . Volunteers will be in pairs, you are welcome to request to be with another person. Volunteers will be provided with vests, masks and training on how to manage different situations. They will also be provided with backup support if it is needed. Each shift will be a total of two hours.

On April 19 Information Technology learned of an outage with the Zoom tool in Sakai that impacted Zoom cloud recordings. Due to the outage recordings were not posted under the Zoom Cloud Recordings tab for meetings held between 9:00 am Thursday, 4/15 and 8:00 pm Monday, 4/19. As of 8:00 pm Monday, April 19, the issue has been resolved and recordings since that time are posting correctly.

On April 6, the Provost’s Task Force on ICC Revision submitted a revised proposal to amend the ICC program to the Committee on College-wide Requirements (CCR), which oversees the ICC program. CCR has elected to share this proposal with the college community and to conduct an advisory vote among faculty regarding the proposed changes.
