Dr. Matthew Holtmeier, Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow in Screen Studies, recently presented at the annual Society for Cinema and Media Studies (SCMS) conference in Montreal, Canada.

Participating in a workshop titled 'Teaching Transnational Cinemas,' he discussed how to enact a critical pedagogy through assignment and curriculum design, and best practices for contextualizing transnational media. This panel was selected by the SCMS Transnational Cinemas Scholarly Interest Group as having particular significance to the academic study of transnational media.

IC Kicks Back!

We would like to invite you to our traditional celebration for the last Friday of classes – IC Kicks Back.  As always, this will be a fun and relaxing experience where you and your friends can create great memories.  Besides the free food, and a concert presented by the Bureau of Concerts, you can expect a variety of entertaining activities courtesy of several IC student organizations.  IC Kicks Back will be held on Friday, May 1st from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Campus Center Quad.  Look for advertisements about the event.  Don’t miss out on this fabulous tradition!

The Circle Apartment Assistants are putting on an event called THE CIRCLE JAM and it’s their version of the fantastic Ithaca community event known as Porch Fest.  Come and join us at this musical event featuring main stage performances, the musical stylings of your peers, lawn games, food, and tie-dye. 

Details:  Saturday, April 25th from 12:00pm – 3:00pm throughout the Circle Apartments.  Main Stage event will be from 1:00pm-2:00pm in the Circle Center Lawn.

The Ithaca College chapter of Phi Kappa Phi is currently seeking two Student Vice-President Representatives to sit on the Executive Committee for the 2015-2016 academic year.

To apply, students must be a Phi Kappa Phi member and a full time student - undergrad or grad - at Ithaca College on campus for the complete 2015-2016 academic year.

Duties will include assisting the executive committee with the annual fall and spring induction and award ceremonies, attend monthly executive committee meetings, aid with administrative tasks, produce a chapter newsletter, and provide input from the student’s perspective.

Mara Alper's presentation "Re-Imagining Water: Citizens Educating Fellow Citizens About Water" at the 7th World Water Forum, in Korea on April 14 was attended by an enthusiastic international audience from Asia, Europe, Africa and North America. After her presentation, people discussed their water interest areas and experiences educating others. Her materials were requested for presentations about water conservation and bottled vs. tap water at Seoul National University, a Korean water conservation company and an Indonesian youth education program.

During the forum, Mara enlisted international guest experts for her online course "Water Planet" and her Ithaca Seminar "The Power of Water." They are from Laos, Slovakia, Austria, Great Britain, Indonesia and the US.

Enjoy an evening out with your children at the IC Family Carnival! Inflated bounce houses, arts and crafts, face painting, and assorted activities stations will transform the fitness center into a children’s play land. You will want to stick around for the live entertainment, raffles, and snacks!

The event is on Friday, April 24th from 5:30 to 8 pm in the gyms on the lower level of the Fitness Center. Entry is $3 for kids, $5 for anyone over 18, and $16 for parties of 5 or more. Members of IC Student United Way organize and run the Family Carnival. All proceeds benefit the ICSUW's fall grant program, during which funds are allocated to organizations in the Ithaca community.
