There is an estimated 13, 280 individuals who lack access to food in Tompkins County. Just last year, Ilana Wolf started the Ithaca College chapter of a national organization, Challah for Hunger, in order to raise awareness to the issues of hunger and poverty.

IC Challah for Hunger works to bring people together through baking and raising awareness to social issues. Wolf said the student organization combines her love of baking and her dedication to combatting social justice issues.

"It's just really great to bring everybody together and make an impact on the local Ithaca community and wider community," she said.

Each week, some of the members gather to bake Challah bread and sell the items in the Campus Center. The money collected is donated to the Food Bank of the Southern Tier and to Mazon, a Jewish response to hunger. Wolf said her student organization raises a total of around $400 per semester
