For the past 24 years the Mind and Life Institute has been hosting dialogues between His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Western scientists on a variety of topics, exploring the similarities and differences in views of Buddhism and Western science. This discussion series will focus on dialogues held during Mind and Life XVIII: “Attention, Memory and Mind”. (127 words) The Ithaca College community lost a former longtime staff member, Terry Beckley, who passed away on August 29, 2013. Terry started at IC in Alumni Relations in 1990, and moved to the Gerontology Institute in 1994, where he had several different positions, including that of Outreach Coordinator. He retired from the ICGI and from IC in September 2006. Terry made many significant contributions to IC and the Gerontology Institute in his years here, and he will be missed by those who knew him. He was creative, fun-loving, and very committed to improving the lives of older people and their caregivers, and he used those gifts to help shape the Gerontology Institute’s academic and outreach programs. This may be progress, but it means that our students and alumni are being surveyed more than ever and are suffering from serious survey respondent fatigue. When there are too many survey requests in their in-boxes, people simply stop participating, our response rates drop, and none of us gets the information we need. Read more . . . (212 words) The Office of Judicial Affairs is currently seeking Staff and Faculty Justices for the 2013-2014 academic year.Contributed by Colleen Barnes on 09/04/13 The position calls for members of the Ithaca College staff and faculty to serve as justices for Ithaca College Conduct Review Board and Conduct Appeal Board hearings. These Conduct Boards are charged with the responsibility of protecting and enforcing the rules and regulations outlined in the Ithaca College Student Conduct Code's "Statement of Responsibilities". The Conduct Review Board and Appeal Board hear cases of alleged academic and non-academic misconduct by Ithaca College students. The Board will determine if a student should be found responsible for the charge(s) he/she allegedly violated, and if found responsible, impose judicial sanctions that range from written warnings to expulsion from the College.
