The chapter provides an overview of the history and theory of peer mentoring and support, an overview of a wide range of peer mentoring programs for adults with I/DD, a case example based on an intervention research project completed by Heffron and her co-authors, and concludes with implications for the OT profession as well as a discussion about how peer mentoring and support can occur informally and outside of traditional rehabilitation/social service settings.
