Faculty and staff are entitled to a free ticket to the welcome back happy hour on the evening of Friday, October 12, as well as the Alumni Weekend picnic on the Campus Center quad on Saturday, October 13. You are also more than welcome to attend any other event during the weekend, including the athletic hall of fame induction ceremony, alumni awards ceremony, "Taste of Ithaca" dinner, and much more. (72 words) Professor Janice Levy receives International Photography AwardContributed by Melissa Gattine on 09/11/12 International Photography Awards (IPA) has announced the winners of 2012's competition. Professor Janice Levy was awarded Honorable Mention in Fine Art - Other category for the winning entry "Animal Display, Riyadh, KSA." Levy, an acclaimed photographer and professor, spent her sabbatical leave in 2010-2011 teaching photography to women at Princess Noura bint Abdulrahman University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. To view her winning entry, click here. Her work is also on display in Dijon, France, as part of a photographic exhibition titled, “Saudi Arabia from Within. ” The exhibition will be on display at the Hotel Malteste, an historic 16th century residence located in on September 15, 2012 and will be featured in an article in Saudi Arabia’s le Bien Public. A review of the exhibition will also appear in the publication’s special Arts section on Saturday.
Office of the Provost & VPEA Welcomes New Staff MemberContributed by Karen Emnett on 09/11/12 The Office of the Provost & VPEA is pleased to welcome new staff member Dylan Schoch, who starts this week as Administrative Assistant for Assessment, Accreditation and Curriculum. He comes to us from the School of Business, where he served as administrative assistant to the dean. Dylan will work with a number of key committees on campus, such as the Academic Policy Committee (APC), Academic Assessment, Graduate Council, and the Committee for College-wide Requirements (CCR). He will also serve as the support person for Associate Provost Carol Henderson, working with her on Middle States accreditation and NYSED program approvals, as well as the college catalog and a range of other project areas. Many of these duties were previously held by long-time staff member Laurie Wasik, who has moved to a new position supporting the Center for Faculty Excellence. Please join us in congratulating Dylan and welcoming him to his new role at the College. (46 words) Tom Nicholson's work featured in Emmy-nominated miniseriesContributed by Melissa Gattine on 09/11/12 Fabric of the Cosmos, a four-part series for Nova aired by PBS, has been nominated for a News & Documentary Emmy. Tom Nicholson worked on episode two of the four-part series. Nicholson, an associate professor in the Department of Media Arts, Sciences and Studies, shot video and time-lapse photography for the episode “The Illusion of Time.” The series was nominated in the “Outstanding Science and Technology Programming” category. Nicholson also appears in the episode as a gas station attendant with host Brian Greene in a scene explaining Einstein’s special theory of relativity. You can watch the episode here. Winners of the News & Documentary Emmy Awards will be presented on Monday, October 1.
Now that the academic year has begun, we are in the process of convening our Student Affairs and Campus Life Committees which are dedicated to addressing some very specific needs of the Ithaca College community. In order to better address these needs by working through a representative body of the community, we are once again attempting to gain faculty, staff, and student participation on each of these groups. The committees for which we are seeking membership are: Diversity Awareness and Safety Awareness.
