A film by Dylan Lowry was recently selected to screen at the Student Experimental Film Festival (SEFF) in Binghamton, New York.

Lowry, a junior cinema and photography major, created A London Segment for his Cinema Production II course in the Spring 2011 semester. The film is a visual and sonic exploration of London, England.

SEFF is a two-day festival that focuses on experimental works that challenge the conventional cinematic experiences. For more information on SEFF, visit http://seffbinghamton.blogspot.com/

Scott Hamula, associate professor and chair of the Department of Strategic Communication, was recently quoted in an article titled, “When Ad Campaigns Go Horribly, Horribly Wrong.”

The piece, written by Darren Dahl, was published on OPEN Forum, an area of the American Express website that features advice for small business owners.

Hamula stresses the importance of customer research and test marketing before launching a campaign.

Three Park School students were selected to participate in the International Radio and Television Society (IRTS) Multicultural Career Workshop in New York City in November.

Shante Snipes ’13 and Brandon McCullough ’12, integrated marketing communications majors, and Justina Kofie ’13, a TV-Radio major, participated in the two-day workshop to learn about opportunities in radio, TV, advertising, and digital media. Representatives from more than 30 major communications companies attended. The students were able to participate in various sessions, network with professionals, and have one-to-one meetings.

Looking for a last minute present for your favorite Potter fan? Or just want to treat yourself with something amazing? Then come to the Harry Potter Alliance's table in the North Foyer to pick up some AWESOME Potter-inspired jewelry, ornaments, pillows, and MORE! We will also have the first round of Yule Ball tickets available for purchase at a limited-time-only lowered price of $8. After break the prices go up to $10 and then $12 at the door (if we have tickets left).

Tabling days and times: December 14th from 10am to 3pm and 16th from 10am to 2pm in Campus Center. 

In the Harry Potter books, the Yule Ball was a mid-winter dance to celebrate the Triwizard tournament. Our Yule Ball will be a charity concert and dance held in Emerson Suites to raise money for the Finger Lakes Land Trust, which is an environmental organization based in Ithaca. The event will be open to the public! RSVP to our event page.

The night will begin with a wizard rock concert from 7pm to 9pm featuring wizard rock artists The Whomping Willows and Lauren Fairweather. Following the concert there will be a DJ and dance from 9pm to midnight. Two events, one ticket!

Ticket Prices:
$8 before winter break 
$10 after winter break and online
$12 at the door

We will begin selling tickets at the $8 price on December 12th, 14th, and 16th from 10am to 3pm in the North Foyer of Campus Center. Tickets will be available online for people not in the Ithaca area soon after the 16th.

Please remember special optical scanning procedures and schedules are in place for the processing of final exams.

Final exams will be processed Sunday-Thursday, December 18th -22nd with a four-hour turnaround time. Special procedures are in place after hours between 5pm-11pm. Regular optical scanning processing will resume Friday, December 23rd. Please see last week’s Intercom article detailing the Optical Scanning finals week procedures.
