Diana Cui and Ashley Hunter were selected as finalists for the 2012 Most Promising Minority Students Program sponsored by the American Advertising Association (AAF). Each year, fifty students are chosen nationwide to receive the honor. Didi Shum was named to the program’s Honor Roll.

AAF's Most Promising Minority Students Program is the premier advertising industry award program to recognize and recruit outstanding minority college graduates. The program not only honors the students, but also enhances their knowledge and understanding of the advertising industry by offering networking, interviewing, and industry immersion opportunities with industry professionals during a three-day event in New York City in February.

Cui and Hunter are integrated marketing communications majors, and Shum is a business administration major.

 A Child's View from Gaza will be shown through a slideshow of children's art portraying their experiences during Operation Cast Lead.  You can ponder why these pictures have been repeatedly censored and banned in the United States and by the Israeli government.  Guest speaker Yasmine Moor, who has worked with Palestinian children in Gaza and refugee camps in Lebanon, will discuss the impact of Israeli and U.S. policies on Palestinian children.

 This multimedia performance includes a short film composed of interviews with IC students, media footage, photographs and factual information regarding the current Israeli occupation of Gaza.  Following the film will be a reader's theater performance in which students will read from selected on-line blog entries written by displaced persons currently residing in Gaza.

 Ithaca College students Laura Murray and Abby Paulson are sponsoring a documentary screening and discussion, Leaving La Floresta, on Thursday, December 8, at 7pm in Textor 102.  One of the film directors, Dan Roge, will introduce the documentary and participate in a subsequent discussion.

Thank you for supporting local troops!

                Ithaca Dining Services hosted Saying Thanks: Support Local Troops at the tc Lounge on Monday, Nov. 14th. Live entertainment was provided by the Erik Caron Connection and IC Supports Our Heroes sold bracelets to raise money to buy items for the troops. The tc Lounge also provided buy one, get one free frozen and regular hot chocolates. People were able to drop off donations and write letters to the soldiers at this event.

                In addition, boxes were set up at each dining hall, IC Square and in the Ithaca Dining Services marketing office from Monday, Nov. 28th to Friday, Dec. 2nd where students, faculty and staff could drop off donations. There was also a table set up at the Better Tomorrow Plan Celebration in Emerson Suites on Wednesday, Nov. 30th for people to drop off donations and write letters to the soldiers.

The Diversity Awareness Committee of Ithaca College is offering students the opportunity to participate in dialogues on race through Talking Circles.  Facilitated by the Multicultural Resource Center, students will be able to come together on campus in a safe environment to share feelings, thoughts and experiences on the issues of race and racism.

 The benefit cabaret, performed by members of the senior class of acting and musical theatre majors in the Department of Theatre Arts, will take place at 7 PM on Sunday, December 11 in the Clark Theatre, Dillingham Center. A silent wine auction will also be a part of the event for those 21 years of age and older. Ithaca College student Candace Riggs invites you to become a witness to the most displaced population in the world and learn about how U.S. policy is impacting the people of Colombia. She will screen “Shoveling Water: War on Drugs, War on People,” a documentary produced by Witness for Peace.  Afterwards Candace will lead a discussion regarding the recently passed Free Trade Agreement between the United States and Colombia and the impact this policy will have on the increase in cocaine production.

Steven Mauk, professor of music (saxophone), was one of the contributing authors in The Vandoren Etude and Exercise Book for Saxophone: The Secrets of Ten Master Saxophonists. This pedagogical publication features chapters by international saxophone authors/performers. Mauk's submission is entitled Preliminary Altissimo Exercises and instructs saxophonists on how to play the notes above the normal range of the saxophone. This is only the most recent of his pedagogical publications, which now number over 100 books and articles.

 Senior Jessica Polizzi has been inducted into Gamma Kappa Alpha, the Italian National Honor Society.
