The School of Music is offering three evening leadership and entrepreneurship sessions. The second session will be held October 31st.

Jim Undercofler, consultant to the School of Music on Leadership and Entrepreneurship, will bring his wealth of experience as Dean of the Eastman School of Music and President and CEO of The Philadelphia Orchestra to work with students in expanding and developing their ideas.

All majors are welcome to attend. Please come early to the lecture to reserve your seat as seating is limited to 40 students and is first come, first served.

Evie Shockley is the author of four collections of poetry including The New Black. She is also the author of Renegade Poetics: Black Aesthetics and Formal Innovation in African American Poetry. Shockley is Associate Professor of English at Rutgers University.

 David Turkon of the Anthropology Department attended the Northeastern Workshop on Southern Africa (NEWSA) in Burlington, VT from October 21 to 23. NEWSA hosts two hour panels with three or four papers each that are are distributed ahead of time so that attendees can pre-read them. After brief comments by authors, to identify theoretical or methodological approaches that they are trying to sharpen or develop, a discussant critiques each approach, identifies common themes and then leads the panel and attendees through intensive discussion. David acted as discussant in a workshop entitled Food Insecurity and Crises in Care.

Pathways is a crisis intervention and suicide prevention training offered to members of the campus community by CAPS.  To date, more than four hundred persons have attended a Pathways training.

Ithaca College staff member Jen Walsh was selected as the “Best of CSPA-NYS” presenter at the College Student Personnel Association of New York State (CSPA- NYS) annual conference in Corning, NY. Walsh is the Leadership Programs Coordinator in the Office of Student Engagement and Multicultural Affairs (OSEMA). The “Best of CSPA-NYS” is the concurrent program rated highest by the conference attendees. Walsh’s presentation, titled “Navigating the Quarter-Life Crisis”, will be submitted for consideration at the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) conference in Louisville, KY in March 2012. If the program is selected, CSPA-NYS will cover the cost of Jen’s conference registration.

The 22st annual Emerson Hall-o-ween event for children of IC employees will be presented from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, October 30 in Emerson Hall.

Staff, faculty, and their families are all invited for a child-friendly Halloween event with trick-or-treating, activities, and more.  Special thanks to the student staff and organizations who help make this event possible each year.  Our theme this year is "Harry Potter," and we hope to see you there!
