The first Sustainability Café of the Fall 2011 series, to be held on Monday, September 19th, will feature Jared Makrancy ’09 from the Bolton Point Water Treatment facility, speaking on “Moving Waters: Treating Ithaca’s Drinking Water Supply”. The Heinz Family Foundation has named scientist and author Sandra Steingraber as one of 10 recipients of the Heinz Award, given for significant achievements benefiting the environment. A Distinguished Scholar in Residence in the School of Humanities and Sciences, Steingraber has dedicated her career to shedding light on the links between cancer and environmental contamination. The award carries with it an unrestricted $100,000 cash prize.

 Throughout the day on Monday, September 19, from 12:30pm until 4:30pm, a mini bus will be parked on the Academic Quad at Ithaca College, just outside of the IC Library and Campus Center, as part of the United Way of Tompkins County's "Stuff the Bus" campaign. We will be collecting donations of food, personal care products, and school supplies. Please help us out by donating some items to the drive on Monday and contributing to this great cause of helping out those in need. 

Volunteers from the United Way Philanthropy Corps, the Ithaca College United Way student group, will be on hand to help collect donations and answer questions about the organization.

ReNew Orleans (formerly Audrey’s House) is a group dedicated to the rebuilding of post-Katrina New Orleans. Our mission is to raise funds for building supplies and community-strengthening programs as well as raising awareness within the Ithaca community about existing infrastructural and ecological conditions in the city of New Orleans.
