Timothy Johnson, Associate Professor of Music Theory, will participate in the filming of a documentary on music and mathematics this week. He will appear in the film as an expert, interviewed on-camera for the documentary. Johnson's book, Foundations of Diatonic Theory: A Mathematical Approach to Music Fundamentals (Scarecrow Press 2008) caught the eye of director and producer, Michael LaPointe, whose extensive credit list includes ABC, MTV, SciFi Channel, and Showtime, among others. LaPointe's films have been featured in over 25 film festivals worldwide. This fall at IC, Johnson will teach the Freshman Music Theory Seminar on diatonic theory, using his book and his other work in this interdisciplinary area.

Come to the last performance of Mozart’s The Magic Flute, 7:30 PM tonight at the CRS Barn Studio, 2622 North Triphammer Road, Ithaca, NY. Directed by Steve Stull and Jeanne Goddard and conducted by Richard Montgomery, this joyful production features faculty and students from the School of Music.

The Summer Graduate Music Program Concert will be held on Wednesday, August 4 at 7pm in Ford Hall. The free concert will feature the Graduate String Ensemble and the Graduate Concert Choir.

Comprised of dedicated public school teachers participating in the intensive summer Master of Music Education program, the concert will feature works of Bruch, Handel, Mozart, Riley, Stroope, Walker, and others. The String Ensemble is the newest ensemble in the master's program and is directed by Debra Moree. The Concert Choir is directed by Jennifer Haywood and will feature guest faculty artists Pablo Cohen on guitar and Jean Radice on organ.  The Concert Choir will feature a new work by celebrated a cappella composer Robert Dietz, a recent Ithaca College graduate.
