Ithaca College students are being urged to make sure they are counted in the 2010 U.S. Census. For most students who live off campus, their census forms have already been delivered in the mail to their Ithaca residence. Those living in residence halls will have their forms distributed by their RAs in mid-April.

First event to celebrate Focus Asia Month on campus!!!

April 1st, 7:00pm @ Klingenstein Lounge

Join us in Klingenstein Lounge for a discussion about Asian/Asian American identities on campus and in society. We will talk about mixed race issues, being an adopted Asian, the difference between Asian and Asian American and being Asian/Asian American on the Ithaca College campus.

Ithacan assistant news editor Aaron Edwards has been accepted to attend this summer’s New York Times Student Journalism Institute, to be held May 16–31 at Dillard University in New Orleans.

The institute offers student journalists an opportunity to work with prominent professionals in a newsroom environment. All expenses are paid, including transportation, and the student receives a stipend.

Edwards, a sophomore journalism major, is the third Ithacan editor in as many years to be accepted to the institute. Nic Barajas ’08 and Erin Geismar ’09 were previous attendees.

On March 1, Jack Rossen presented two talks "Cayuga History in Your Backyard" and "How People Got Here: The Bering Strait and Other Myths" and Brooke Hansen presented "Living in the Cayuga Homeland: Strengthening Connections With the Land and Each Other" to students and teachers at the Ithaca High school. On March 2 Patricia Rodriguez spoke about "Indigenous Land and Environmental Struggles in Chile and Latin America".

The Center for Educational Technology, CET, is now open in Job Hall.   

These lab sessions are short demonstrations and hands-on opportunities to learn to use tools on your Mac, focusing on the creation of digital media for your courses. Users are encouraged to bring their Mac laptops, however, we do have a few Macs in the CET. Sessions will be recorded as podcasts. These will be led by Mac Consultant Fred Chandra of Residential Life.

A Master Class in Hip Hop will be held on Wednesday, March 31 at 1:00 in the Hill Center Dance Studio.  A Master Class in Tap will be held on Wednesday, March 31 at 3:00 in the Hill Center Dance Studio.  Both classes are open to all dancers and are free.

Naomi Klein, an award-winning journalist, syndicated columnist and author of “The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism,” will speak at Ithaca College on Wednesday, April 7. Sponsored by the Park Center for Independent Media, her talk is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Emerson Suites, Phillips Hall. It is free and open to the public.

The Park Center for Independent Media (PCIM) at Ithaca College has announced that its second annual Izzy Award for special achievement in independent media will go to investigative journalist Jeremy Scahill, whose work in 2009 helped elevate the issue of abuse by military contractors to front-page news. 

Scahill is the author of the international best-seller “Blackwater: The Rise of the World’s Most Powerful Mercenary Army.” He will appear on campus to accept the award on Monday, April 19. Details of the event, which is free and open to the public, will be announced at a later date.

Pamela S. Mayberry, MGS, Associate Director and Academic Program Coordinator at the Gerontology Institute, has been elected to a two-year term on the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education’s Executive Committee. She also chairs the organization’s Publications Committee and is a Program of Merit Reviewer.

The Ithaca College Choir will present its annual tour program on Saturday, March 27 at 8:15 p.m.  The free concert is entitled "Dreams," and features Ralph Vaughan Williams' "Dona Nobis Pacem," along with music of Whitacre, Dinerstein,Stucky, and several others.  Lawrence Doebler will conduct.
