The Sustainability Café on Tuesday, March 9th will feature Hans Pfister, president and co-owner of Cayuga Sustainable Hospitality, speaking on integrating sustainability into the hospitality industry. The Café will be held in Friends Room 207 from 12:10 – 1:00PM. The unique name of this Sustainability Café is taken from the "Pigs, Twigs and Garbage Tour" at Lapa Rios Ecolodge in Costa Rica, where guests learn how they can incorporate elements of sustainability into their personal lives.

Michael Malpass will present a talk on his recent book The Distant Provinces in the Inka Empire: Toward a Deeper Understanding of Inka Provincialism at the Cornell Store on Wednesday, March 10, at 4:30 pm.
 

Who was in charge of the widespread provinces of the great Inka Empire of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries: Inka from the imperial heartland or local leaders who took on the trappings of their conquerors, either by coercion or acceptance?  By focusing on provinces far from the capital of Cuzco, this multidisciplinary volume provides up-to-date information on the strategies of domination asserted by the Inka across the provinces far from their capital and the equally broad range of responses adopted by the peoples they conquered. 

Following the presentation Professor Malpass will lead a question and answer session.  Light refreshments will be available throughout the event, and copies of Distant Provinces in the Inka Empire will be available at a 20% discount for this special event.

Laura Flanders hosts one of the most successful Web-based television shows. Josh Silver heads the nation’s largest media reform group. Both are experts on the rapidly changing media environment. The duo will unite to give a free public talk — “Independent Media and Critical Journalism: How Do We Get There?” — on Thursday, March 11, at 8 p.m. in Ithaca College’s Emerson Suites.

IC parents are invited to the Wellness Clinic, CHS 302, on Thursday, March 4th from Noon-1pm to learn more about the IC Fit Kids program. IC Fit Kids is an after-school program that provides structured, supervised exercise and lifestyle education to help your children meet whatever goals they may have from general fitness to weight managment to sports performance.  Bring your lunch and learn about this fun, motivating, and affordable program your kids can't miss out on.
