Cathy Crane, associate professor in the Department of Cinema, Photography, and Media Arts, received a 2009 New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in Film.

Her recent short film, Adrift, screened as part of New Filmmakers series at Anthology Film Archives in New York City and was juried to screen at Newport Mills in Newport, New Hampshire, from August 8 to November 7, 2009, as part of the "H2O: Film on Water" art exhibit. This film project received support from the provost's office for creative and small project grants.

Scott Hamula, associate professor and director of the integrated marketing communications program, proposed and moderated a panel, "Working Social Media before It Works You: Best Practices for Advertising and Public Relations," at the 2009 Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) convention in Boston in August.

Jack Powers, assistant professor in the Department of Television-Radio, also presented a paper at the conference, titled "Depictions of Minority Characters on Popular Children's Cable Programs: A Content Analysis."

A short documentary that Park Productions produced, titled "Truth and Consequence," about experiments with children, screened at the ReelHeART International Film Festival in Toronto this summer. The video won third place in the short documentary category.

Park Productions is a professional production unit based in the Park School of Communications. It provides students with real-world experience in a variety of media.

Instructional Development Fund (IDF) grants support direct course improvement as well as interdisciplinary projects. Proposals are due in the Office of the Provost by September 15 and November 15 for fall and spring implementation, February 15 for spring and summer implementation, and April 15 for summer and fall implementation.

New and returning faculty, staff, and students are strongly encouraged to sign up for Ithaca College's Emergency Notification System (ENS) prior to the test of the system that will take place during the noon hour on Thursday, September 10.

The ENS uses voice, e-mail, and text messaging to provide time-sensitive information and details on appropriate responses during critical situations.

Stephen Sweet, associate professor of sociology; IC student Justine Lewis '11; and Judi Casey of Boston College have published their article, "Connecting Motherhood to Work: Teaching Resources and Strategies," in the journal Women’s Studies Quarterly

The article will appear in the fall/winter 2009 issue. 

Learn to Row Clinic
