The Office of Admission staff will be involved in their annual two-day planning sessions on Tuesday, June 9, and Wednesday, June 10.

Jeffery Meyer, conductor of the Ithaca College Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, recently appeared in the Hermitage Theatre with the St. Petersburg Chamber Philharmonic in the opening concert of the 14th International Musical Olympus Festival in St. Petersburg, Russia. The performance featured young international prize winners as soloists, including the principal bassoon of the Kirov Orchestra.

Helene M. Larin, associate professor of physical therapy, published an article, entitled "Emotional-Social Intelligence of Physical Therapy Students during the Initial Academic Component of the First Year of Their Professional Program," in the Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice, volume 7, number 2, May 2009.

Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) for Windows was recently released by Microsoft. As with all new product releases, thorough testing and evaluation must be done to ensure that the software functions properly in our environment. Particularly with Web browsers, it's important that our major systems such Homer, Parnassus and Blackboard, to name a few, are certified to work with new browsers.

IE8 is still under early evaluation by ITS and at this time it is recommended that users NOT install IE8 on college-owned computers in order to avoid compatibility issues with campus applications.

As of May 29, the air conditioning system for the Campus Center is out of service. The Office of Facilities is making every effort to repair the air conditioning, but they will not be able to complete repairs to the until approximately Wednesday, June 3.

Ithaca men's lacrosse coach Jeff Long has been elected to the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame. The eight-member class of inductees was chosen from a group of 24 finalists and the newest hall of famers will be inducted November 7 in Hunt Valley, Maryland.

Attention college-owned Mac Users:

The problem with Office updates for Macs that was recently posted to Intercom has now been resolved. Microsoft Office updates should now successfully download and install, either during the automatic weekly check for updates, or when launching an Office program and choosing "Check for Updates" from the Help menu.

VIP packages for the Ithaca Community Fireworks Show on July 2 are now available, according to Fran Benedict, chair of the volunteer committee that organizes the fireworks show. Benedict said invitations are being sent to previous fireworks supporters and potential VIPs, but anyone in the community is eligible to become a "Very Important Patron" of the fireworks.
