Jim Lovell, the Apollo 13 commander -- who uttered the memorable phrase, "Houston -- we've had a problem," before helping guide his crippled spacecraft back to earth -- stood before some 1,390 graduates and guests at Ithaca College's commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 17, and told them that they, too, have the ability to solve problems that at first seem unsolvable.

"Ithaca College's integrative curriculum framework will prepare students for success in a complex and evolving society by an intentional broadening of the breadth and synthesis of experience in order to advance the depth of understanding."

Nearly 30 Demonstration Project proposals were submitted in the initial round, each of which provided an interesting and valuable possibility for the development of the integrative concept at Ithaca College. Unfortunately, not all of the proposals could be funded at this time.

The review process involved an evaluation by the deans followed by a final selection made by the president in conjunction with the provost.
