Attending a Public Night

To attend a public night, just show up in front of the Park School building (O lot entrance). A shuttle van will make regular runs to convey people up to the observatory and back down. There is no parking available up at the observatory. The access road is NOT lighted, so please do not walk up.

Bad Weather Plan

The "go/no-go" decision for any public night will be made at 3:30 p.m. on the scheduled date. Our web page and the recorded message at the observatory will be updated shortly thereafter to reflect the decision for that evening. So if you check our site or call the observatory at 274-3012 after about 4:00 p.m. (to give me time to update things) you will get the final decision for that evening.

In 1968, John Carlos competed in the Olympics held in Mexico and won the bronze medal in the 200-meter dash. During the victory ceremony, Carlos and Tommie Smith raised a black gloved fist in silent protest against racism and economic depression for all oppressed peoples. This moment was voted the sixth most memorable event of the century. John Carlos will share his words and insights with our community.

Patricia Zimmermann, professor in the Department of Cinema, Photography and Media Arts and codirector, Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival, was the opening speaker for the 2009 Visual Culture Colloquium in the Art History Department at Cornell University on February 2, 2009.

The title of her talk was "Engaging Iraq: Experimental Digitalities and Environmental Historiographies." The lecture theorized the relationships between iterative and modular digital arts and critical historiography through an analysis of public media works probing the war in Iraq in installation, locative media, cellphone games, satellites, ambient media, and live multimedia performance remix.

IC Theatre and the School of Music collaborate to celebrate French 20th- century opera with productions of two musical dramas: Pauline Viardot’s “Cendrillon” (Cinderella) and Maurice Ravel’s “L’Enfant et les Sortilèges” (The Child and the Wild).
