It is with a great deal of sadness that I inform the campus community of the death of one of our students. Saverio Montanino passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 11, in his residence hall room. There is no foul play suspected in his death at this time, though the investigation is continuing pending the findings of the medical examiner. This announcement to the campus community was withheld until his family could be notified.

I wish to announce a reorganization of our Office of Enrollment Management. In the future, Enrollment Management (including the Office of Admission and the Office of Financial Aid) will be headed by a new vice president for enrollment management. This vice president will report directly to me and will be part of the President's Council. Enrollment Management was previously headed by a dean and was part of the provost's office.

Associate professor of physics Beth Ellen Clark Joseph traveled to Copenhagen, Denmark, to serve on the Ph.D. defense committee of a physics candidate who was presenting a dissertation in asteroid astronomy.

The candidate successfully defended his thesis, titled "A Model of the Spatial Distribution and Dynamics of Solar System Objects Down to Meter-Size," and received the Ph.D. on December 1, 2008, from the science faculty of the Geological Museum of the Natural History Museum of Denmark, which is run by the University of Copenhagen.

Do you need to drive during the spring or summer 2009 semesters?

Students who need to drive College-owned and leased/rented vehicles are required to take a free, two-hour driver safety class, which will be conducted on campus by the College’s insurance company on the dates listed below for the spring 2009 semester. This policy is in the interest of student safety and sound risk management.

These will be the ONLY classes available for those who need to drive during the summer.
