Join us for a night of film, discussion, and food. Kids for Cash: the documentary explores the scandal that rocked Lucerne County, PA. No less than a two hour drive from Ithaca, NY, the documentary explores the case of two judge who where recieving compensation for sending minors to jail to increase occupancy at for-profit dentention centers. Over a thousand children were convicted of simple crimes. We will see the effect of incarceration on juveniles as well as the for-profit prison industry that dictates our criminal justice system. There will be a brief discussion after the documentary and light refreshments provided.

Raza Rumi, Director of the Park Center for Independent Media (PCIM) is offering a minicourse focusing on the challenges that independent media faces today.

GCOM 39100: Media Today: Ideas, Practices and Challenges (1 cr) CRN 43308

This seminar enables students to gain immersive experience in the Independent Media Symposium 2019 as participants, reporters and bloggers. The course offers students a mix of theory and practice focusing on the challenges that independent media faces today. The course also offers training in learning how to serve as part of a conference/symposia staff by learning all aspects of the history of independent media vision, its financing and partnerships. Dr. Janet Galván was a headline clinician for the Arizona Music Educators Conference on February 1st-2nd in Phoenix, Arizona.  She presented four sessions on choral music.   

The sessions were:

  • Where the Body Goes, the Voice Follows
  • Let It Go:  Building Community and Musicianship Through Movement
  • Conducting with Purpose, Process, and Passion
  • Communication: Expanding the Palette of Sound, Repertoire, and Concert Presentation
