Distinguished Visiting Writer Ayana Mathis Reads on April 12Contributed by Nick Kowalczyk on 04/05/18 Acclaimed novelist Ayana Mathis, assistant professor at the University of Iowa's Writers' Workshop and the author of The Twelve Tribes of Hattie, will give a reading, Q&A, and book-signing in the Handwerker Gallery on Thursday, April 12 at 6 PM as part of the Distinguished Visiting Writers Series. Ayana Mathis is a graduate of the Iowa Writers' Workshop and a recipient of the 2014-15 New York Public Library's Cullman Center Fellowship. Her first novel The Twelve Tribes of Hattie (Vintage) was a New York Times Bestseller, a 2013 New York Times Notable Book of the Year , an NPR Best Books of 2013 and was chosen by Oprah Winfrey as the second selection for Oprah's Book Club 2.0.
