Ellen J. Staurowsky, Ed.D., former coordinator of the Ithaca College Sports Media program is returning to Ithaca this fall as a full professor in the Park School of Communications. She is an expert on social justice issues in the sport industry and college sports in particular. She just co-authored a report with Ramogi Huma, executive director of the National College Players Association, who is the advisor for the PAC-12 football players who initiated the #WeAreUnited Campaign in protest against unsafe work conditions and unfair treatment. The report, entitled How the NCAA's Empire Robs Predominantly Black Athletes of Billions in Generational Wealth has received wide-spread media attention since its publication on July 31, 2020.

Face Masks for Students

Face masks for students who are living on or near campus are available 24/7 in the Public Safety lobby, and students who reside off campus in the South Hill area can have them delivered once per week by emailing their request to publicsafety@ithaca.edu. The off-campus deliveries are pretty popular, and the officers enjoy supporting and connecting with students!

Conversations Across Screen Cultures, a new online initiative featuring live interviews and discussions with film and media scholars, media artists, and programmers in the Central New York region, launches on September 15, 2020.

This initiative will feature Central New York scholars interviewing guests about their new books, recent publications, current research, curatorial projects, and the state of the discipline.

The one-hour sessions will be held on alternating Tuesdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Sessions will feature open discussion and dialogue with students and faculty in attendance.

The initiative is a collaboration between faculty from Ithaca College, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival (FLEFF), the Cine con Cultura festival, and the Syracuse University Human Rights Film Festival (SUHRFF).
