Open letter to the Ithaca College community:

We, the undersigned members of the steering committee of the Jewish Studies program, are writing in support of our part-time and contingent colleagues in their collective union efforts to forge a mutually beneficial contract with Ithaca College. We view these negotiations as necessary steps toward fair, living wages and a more welcoming and equitable working environment. It is in everyone’s interest that the wide disparity between faculty wages be ameliorated.

Representatives of both full-time and part-time contingent faculty have been negotiating with the administration for over a year. The two most important issues for our membership - fair pay for part-timers and job security for full-timers - remain at a standstill, with the administration refusing to even discuss reasonable solutions that would help us, our students, and our college.

Associate Professor Joshua Bonnetta will present three new works at the 2017 Berlinale (Berlin Film Festival) taking place from Feb. 9-19.

Lago, developed in response to former Associate Professor Ron Jude's photo book Lago, is a multichannel sound installation of two compositions comprised of field recordings collected in the Sonoran Desert. The work will be accompanied with a 4-channel video installation Land of Thin Air. These two works will be exhibited for the duration of the festival in the Marshall McLuhan Salon at the Canadian Embassy. Land of Thin Air was co-edited with current Ithaca College student Jacob Schaffel-Scherrer.

El Mar La Mar is a feature length film co-directed with Northwestern University Assistant Professor John-Paul Sniadecki. The film is explores at a highly politicized area of the south-western Sonoran desert along a stretch of the Mexico/US border.

Teacher Recruitment Days (TRD) will be held this year on April 6-7 at SUNY Cortland. During this event districts from across the country send recruiters to conduct interviews for known and anticipated vacancies. Graduate and undergraduate students, and IC alumni who will be eligible for certification by September 2017 may register to attend TRD.

 WGST presents Robert Jensen, University of Texas professor, discussing his latest book, The end of patriarchy: Radical feminism for men.  In this book, Jensen asks one key question: What do we need to create and maintain stable, decent human communities that can remain in a sustainable relationship with the larger living world?  His answer: A radical feminism that critiques institutionalized male dominance, rejects men's assertion of a right to control womne's sexuality and reproduction, and demands an end to men's violence.  

Jensen, who teaches in the School of Journalism at UT, Austin, is the author of several other books, including The heart of whiteness: Confronting race, racism, and white privilege and Getting off: Pornography and the end of masculinity.  

 This talk is free and open to the public.  Jensen will be selling and signing books after the talk.

Come to IC After Dark’s Blank Canvas event for a night of creativity and specialty coffee! On Friday, February 17th from 8-11 pm in IC Square there will be spin art, an open mic and other cool art activities. There will also be baked goods, hot chocolate and an espresso machine making free specialty coffee drinks (and you’ll have the chance to win the espresso machine by posting on social media!)
