On Thursday, December 8, the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) bargaining team representing part-time, per-course faculty communicated to the press that they are prepared to hold a strike vote early in the spring semester if their demands are not met. As the college’s bargaining team, we are disheartened and frustrated at the adversarial tone, misleading allegations, and willingness to disrupt the learning environment for our students.

Congratulations to Kyle Morris on being a recipient of the NYSATA iLead Scholarship! This scholarship provides funding up to $1,500.00 to attend the NATA iLead Conference in Grapevine, TX February 17-18, 2017. Kyle will also be selecting a session from the program and preparing an article to be included in the June 2017 NYSATA Newsletter.

iLead, a leadership workshop for undergraduate (juniors and seniors only) or graduate students who are NATA members, will be held in conjunction with the Athletic Training Educators’ Conference in early 2017.  In addition, the NATA Ethnic Diversity Advisory Committee (EDAC) has created a diversity grant program for ethnically diverse athletic training students who would like to attend iLEAD but may not have the finances to do so.

The Center for Faculty Excellence is pleased to announce a call for proposals for its Faculty-in-Residence program in the academic year, 2017-2018.  The program will bring together up to 6 faculty members who have proposed a program of study, reflection, planning, and action related to some aspect of faculty excellence and development.  Successful proposals will link faculty interests to Ithaca College initiatives and must have a potential impact beyond the faculty member’s own discipline or department.   Proposals are especially welcome that address contemplative pedagogy, cultural fluency, mentoring, diversity, inclusion and equity, SOTL, and development of pedagogical strategies related to quantitative literacy and writing.

Fae Dremock, Assistant Professor in Environmental Studies and Sciences, garnered two separate Pushcart nominations this year--  for her short stories "Split Tickets" in Rum Punch Press and "Open at the Throat" in Artful Dodge.

The 2017-2018 off-campus approval has been reached and students will no longer be approved to live off-campus for the 2017-2018 academic year. The Office of Residential Life will continue to accept Off-campus Applications from rising juniors to apply to the waitlist only.

The Dorothy Cotton Jubilee Singers (DCJS) will celebrate the art of African American sacred music known as Negro Spirituals on Sunday, Dec.11, at 3 p.m. in Ford Hall in the Whalen Center School of Music.

DCJS has more than 80 members of different ages (18 to 78), heritages and backgrounds, including almost 20 Ithaca College voice students who perform many of the solos and IC faculty, including artistic director Baruch Whitehead. The mission of DCJS is to preserve the Negro Spiritual and use its themes of sorrow, despair and hope to promote racial healing and social justice.
