The IC Medieval and Renaissance Colloquium announces a presentation by Jennifer Lyons, Art History, titled  "Synagoga, Ecclesia, and the Typological Imagination at Chartres Cathedral."  Prof. Lyons will give her talk on Wednesday, November 16, at 5:30 in Business 103.  All interested members of the IC community are invited.

Dr. Enrique González-Conty presented a paper titled “The Cuban Connection: Caribbean Drug Wars on the Big Screen” on October 29, 2016, at the Conference of the Pacific Coast Council on Latin American Studies at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas. His paper examined Orlando Jiménez Leal’s film 8-A (1992) and its role in deconstructing the official representation of what is known as the Ochoa affair of 1989 in Cuba.

Provost Linda Petrosino announced today that Dr. Alicia Swords, Associate Professor of Sociology, has been named Director of the Honors Program. Dr. Swords has taught at Ithaca College since 2006 and focuses on global development, social movements, and social change. A graduate of Oberlin College with majors in environmental studies and politics, she earned her Ph.D. in development sociology from Cornell University.  Dr. Swords employs community-based learning and service-learning in her teaching and has led short term study abroad trips to the Dominican Republic.

The event will take place on Thursday, November 17th at 7:00 PM in Emerson Suites at Ithaca College with the theme “Sporting Gold.” Admission for this event is free and open to the public.

Apply to participate in one of this year’s Alternative Spring Break (ASB) trips!  ASB is an application-based program sponsored by the Office of Student Engagement and Multicultural Affairs (OSEMA) that provides students with service opportunities at one of five sites across the eastern United States.  All students are eligible to apply.

Our five trips include:

  • Youth Mentoring and Cultural Exploration (Seneca Nation of Indians Allegany Territory in Salamanca, NY)

Cortaca Viewing Party 11/12

On November 12, Ithaca College will take on SUNY Cortland in the annual Cortaca Game. This year the game will be at SUNY Cortland.

The Student Activities Board (SAB) and Students Today Alumni Tomorrow (STAT) will be hosting a viewing party in the Campus Center Dining Hall starting at 11:30.

There will be tons of prizes and food like Root beer Floats, Breakfast sandwiches, banana splits. Fried Pickle Chips & Jalapeno Peppers.

Come cheer on Ithaca College, eat exciting foods and win amazing prizes with friends.

Don’t forget to wear your Cortaca T-shirt that you can get during Spirit Week. If you wear this shirt you will receive an extra ticket. No worries if you do not get a shirt please still come on by.

Rising income and wealth inequalities across segments of the declining middle class, the growth of conservative media outlets since the 1980s—especially Rupert Murdoch’s business ventures—and the expanding campaign finance system that opens the powerful moneyed interests have all played a part. As do the return of identity politics over recognition and redistribution from the left and right—the political fights and white backlash over affirmative action, Black Lives Matter and the struggles over the classification system, leading to what I call a cultural war over taxonomy as politics for defining citizenship, civic worth and social entitlements.
