Sae-Mi Lee, one of HSHP Pre-Doctoral Diversity Fellows was awarded the “Student Diversity Award” at the 31st annual Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) conference held September 28- October 1 in Phoenix AZ.

This award recognizes and honors the achievements of students involved in research, service or applied experiences that focus on diversity issues.

Sae-Mi Lee also presented a workshop at the conference titled: “It is Our Problem: How to Advocate for Social Change in Applied Sport Psychology” with colleagues from the University of Tennessee and West Virginia University.

Exercise and Sport Studies faculty and students represented Ithaca College at the 31st annual Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) conference held September 28- October 1 in Phoenix AZ. AASP is the premier international conference in sport and exercise psychology.

Associate Professor Justine Vosloo (Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences) and a group of graduate students in the Exercise and Sport Sciences Graduate Program presented a workshop titled:

“Making Learning Fun: Creative Activities for those Potentially Dry Topics within Sport and Exercise Performance Consulting” by Sydney Masters, Cathlyn Pistolas, Brian McDevitt, Margaret McConnell, Megan Walker, Justine Vosloo.

Last April a Faculty Scholarship, Research and Creative Inquiry Fair was held where various faculty members presented their research or scholarly work in a lightning round format.

The event was very successful and we would like to repeat it with new presenters on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, from 4:00 – 6:00 pm, in Klingenstein Lounge, Campus Center.

The fair will consist of five minute “lightning round” talks.  Faculty members wishing to participate are strongly encouraged to share their recent research/scholarly work or works still in progress.  Wine and cheese and other refreshments will be available.

NYC professional and community musicians present score of ‘Porgy and Bess’ Oct. 9 

A concert performance of “Porgy and Bess,” George Gershwin’s highly acclaimed American folk opera, will feature more than 150 performers that include a dozen professionals from Opera Noire of New York, Sunday, Oct. 9, at 4 p.m. in Ford Hall at the Whalen Music Center on the campus of Ithaca College.The performance also will include IC School of Music vocal students and alumni, the IC Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Michael Hall, The Dorothy Cotton Jubilee Singers, and the Southside Community and Community School of Arts Children Chorus. 

Baruch Whitehead, artistic director of the production, IC associate professor of music education and artistic director of the Dorothy Cotton Jubilee Singers, notes: “In this score, Gershwin brilliantly blends the African American genres of blues, jazz, folks tunes, jubilees, praying songs, street cries, work songs, and spirituals into the classical art form of opera.”

Earlier this week, Ithaca College became the latest institution to respond to a reported “clown sighting,” when a caller notified the Office of Public Safety of a social media posting regarding a clown allegedly being seen near the Athletics & Events Center. Officers checked the area and did not find anything suspicious.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind the campus community that the Office of Public Safety takes all reports of suspicious persons or activities very seriously. At the same time, however, we ask the community not to be part of the hysteria surrounding the clown sighting phenomenon that seems to be sweeping the country.

ITHACA, NY– Eugene Ionesco’s anti-play is set to take the stage at the Earl McCarroll Studio Theatre as Ithaca College Theatre presents "The Bald Soprano." Performances will be held at the Earl McCarroll Studio Theatre in Dillingham Center on Saturday, October 8th at 8pm, Sunday the 9th at 2pm and 8pm, and Monday, October 10th at 8pm.
