The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and Ithaca College have announced that construction is underway on a 2.9 megawatt (MW) solar electric project that will provide enough electricity to meet approximately 10 percent of the college’s energy needs. The project will produce clean, renewable and sustainable energy for the college, lower its energy costs and reduce its greenhouse gas emissions.

Monday Feb 22, Clark Lounge, 7 pm. LGBT activist and advocate Etai Pinkas will talk about LGBT marriage laws, and his role working with city council government. He is an LGBT community leader in Israel, served as chairman of the national LGBT association in Israel and was a member of the Tel Aviv-Jaffa City Council and advises the mayor on LGBT affairs. He married his partner in 2005 as part of a public campaign to compel Israel to recognize same-sex marriages.Their marriage was performed in Canada, the only country at that time which granted same-sex marriages to foreign citizens. Dumplings, dumplings, and dumplings!

The IC Asian American Alliance will be hosting its annual event, Dumpling Night, on Monday, February 22 at 7 pm in the Terrace 2 Kitchen. This year, we will be collaborating with the IC Culinary Club as we learn to make dumplings! We will be offering a meat and vegetarian option throughout the night. There will also be fun board games; we hope to see you there!

February 21-27 is National Eating Disorders Awareness Week (NEDAW), and the focus this year is on early detection and intervention. The earlier an eating disorder is recognized and treatment begins, the better chance there is for a full recovery. 

Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental disorder, and up to 30 million Americans will suffer from an eating disorder at some point in their life. Eating disorders are complex life-threatening bio-psycho-social illnesses, not lifestyle choices. They profoundly impact not only those who are ill, but also their friends, family, and the whole community.

Initiating and maintaining the diversity and inclusion dialogue can be challenging. As practitioners, we often ask ourselves, how do we continue the D&I conversation in between formal initiatives? In this webinar, participants will use the GROW coaching model as a tool to initiate and advance the diversity and inclusion dialogue. Participants will generate a list of powerful questions that stimulate conversation and participants will prepare for a coaching conversation they can have in their organization in the upcoming weeks.

At its February meeting, the Ithaca College Board of Trustees granted emeritus status to 4 former faculty members and awarded promotions and tenure to 17 current faculty members.

  • Donald Lifton, who passed away on Dec.5, was posthumously named professor emeritus of management.
  • Stephen Clancy, who retired in 2015, was named professor emeritus of art history.
  • Roger Hinderliter, who retired in 2014, was named professor emeritus of economics.
  • Kent Scriber, who retired in 2015, was named professor emeritus of exercise and sport sciences.
