Ithaca College’s Task Force on Meals & Entertainment has developed a proposed policy on the utilization of Ithaca College funds for meals, receptions, alcohol, etc. in order to help us be more purposeful, efficient, and equitable about how we spend on food and under what circumstances.  The College’s Institutional Effectiveness and Budget Committee (IEBC) has reviewed the policy and is working with the Task Force to share the proposal with the campus community in order to solicit community feedback.

Due to safety concerns regarding fire safety and the potential for serious injuries to riders, self- balancing scooters, or hoverboards will not be allowed to be charged, operated, possessed, or stored in any residential hall or apartment on the Ithaca College campus. This policy is being instituted immediately based on recent reports of fires and explosions that have occurred from faulty lithium batteries. Students with hoverboards will have one week from today to send the item home or make alternative storage arrangements. The Office of Environmental and Emergency Management and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission are investigating the cause of fires and the risks associated with this product. In addition, the National Fire Protection Association and the New York State Office of Fire Prevention have issued safety alerts and warnings.

Four Ithaca College students traveled to New Haven, Connecticut as registered participants of the Black Solidarity Conference held on the campus of Yale University. Sponsored by the Office of Student Engagement and Multicultural Affairs, Anissa Ash '18, Brandon Paul '17, Arlana Shikongo '17, and Efosa Erhunmwunse '18 represented IC among the 50+ institutions and 700+ participants.

René Esparza, a doctoral candidate in American Studies at the University of Minnesota, will give a talk titled PLAY IT SAFE!  Anti-violence gay activism, racialized criminality, and the spatial politics of homonormativity.  

The talk will be on Monday, February 22nd, from 3-4 pm in the Handwerker Gallery.

The School of Music and Department of Theatre Arts will team up to present Handel’s opera “Semele,” a classic story of jealousy and fatal attraction from Roman mythology.
