Greetings to the campus community,

By now most of you are aware of my recent appointment as the interim chief diversity officer. I assumed this new leadership role with mixed emotions as I have witnessed IC students raise serious questions about Ithaca College’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Most of you are also aware that the college has made a declaration of numerous plans and initiatives to address these questions, which can be viewed at ithaca.edu/diversity. I will share a few updates on some of those plans below.

Last Friday, IC International Club held one of its biggest events of the year: the One World Concert. This event is a culmination to a week-long series of events celebrating International Education Week, which is a time to celebrate the many different cultures represented at Ithaca College and Cornell. The One World Concert in particular showcased different cultures through various music and dance performances, many of which were performed by our very own IC students! Congratulations on another year of success.

Every student at Ithaca College has benefited from the services offered by the Student Government Association. Whether it’s educating its campus about the importance of voting, placing students on staff-run college wide committees, or assisting with important causes, SGA utilizes many “under-the-radar” strategies to serve as the bridge between the Ithaca College administration and the IC student body.

The Student Government Association is one of four elements of the shared governance of Ithaca College, along with the administration, faculty council, and staff council. And although SGA is recognized as an OSEMA student organization, the group is self-governing as well. SGA’s executive board consists of student body president Dominick Recckio, four vice presidents running departments such as academic affairs and communications, a Senate Chair, and a Chief of Staff.
